In mid-September, The Athletic published a list of the 125 best players in the NHL.
The guys were classified into these different categories:
Tier 1 (MVP) Tier 2 (franchise players) Tier 3 (star players) Tier 4 (front-line players)
In each “tier”, the players were separated by letter. For example, Connor McDavid was alone with a 1A rating, while Leon Draisaitl, Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews, Cale Makar were rated 1B.
You understand the principle.
In the rankings, we see the names of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. The two men are classified in category 4C, i.e. top line.
A few weeks following the publication of the said ranking, the network The Athletic met several NHL players to find out their thoughts on the list. Some decided to respond unanimously, while others did not.
The guys therefore had the opportunity to talk regarding their opponents for good or bad (you can find their comments in this text)…And there was one who talked regarding Cole Caufield as an overrated player.
According to him, Suzuki is better than Caufield because he plays shorthanded and because the importance of the captain is enormous even if it does not always appear on the statistics sheet.
Mattias Ekholm, Kirill Kaprizov and Owen Power were also named as overrated players:

On the other hand, I find it cool to see the way NHL players look at their opponents.
It allows you to have a different perspective because they are in a good position to speak. They’re the ones competing on the ice, following all.
I have a hard time believing that Cole Caufield is going to start having nightmares that an NHL player thinks he’s overrated. Especially with his confidence level.
Who knows… Maybe it will give him some extra motivation too.
In any case, I find that his production since the start of the season (3 goals and 3 assists in six games) is not worse for an overrated player.

– There might be changes regarding the NHL draft.
NEWS: The NHL has issued a memo to teams saying that there was majority support for a shift to a decentralized draft. Still not clear if it will happen in 2024 and there are a lot of logistics to work out.
