ASTRONOMY. On April 8, after a drought of more than 50 years, a total solar eclipse will plunge part of Quebec into darkness for a few minutes. Alongside this event, the Drummondville Astronomy Club (CADI) is organizing an information activity, Friday and Saturday, at Promenades Drummondville.
This is definitely a natural phenomenon not to be missed. Despite a few partial eclipses that will occur over the next few years, we will have to wait until 2106 to relive the same scenario. More than 80 years old.
“We are going to install an information kiosk in the central promenade courtyard to make people aware of this phenomenon. There will be a few telescopes, a twenty-meter model of the solar system and short conferences. We will have protective glasses for citizens who want to obtain them at a low price,” explained Gaétan Leclerc, president of CADI.
The eclipse will begin shortly after 2 p.m. It is only around 3:28 p.m. that the Moon’s shadow will cover a very specific corridor of Quebec.
Drummondville will be deprived of the sun’s rays for approximately two minutes. A little over an hour later, the Sun will have reappeared in the sky, the Moon having finished its game of hide and seek.
In the meantime, a conference on the Sun, on the sidelines of the eclipse, will be presented at the George D’Or room of the Cégep de Drummondville on March 21, from 7 p.m. However, you must reserve your tickets, free of charge, by following the conference link.
