The association of the automotive industry mourns Erika Emmerich

The former President of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Erika Emmerich, is dead. She died at the age of 87, as the VDA announced on Monday. Emmerich was the first woman to head the association, she led it for three terms from 1989 to 1996.

Emmerich was born the daughter of an entrepreneur in the supply industry. She first worked in the Federal Ministry of Transport and in 1986 became President of the Federal Motor Transport Authority in Flensburg. She then moved to the head of the lobby association.

The current VDA President Hildegard Müller praised Emmerich as an “impressive and highly valued personality”. She said of herself: ‘I’ve never been afraid. Fear is the greatest stumbling block.’ A claim “that still inspires today and makes Erika Emmerich a role model for all of us,” explained Müller. (AFP/hau)

Could this be the solution to the “range problem” of zero-emission vehicles? This hybrid hydrogen car has a range of 1,000 km. The concept vehicle was developed by the German Aerospace Center.
