Lebanon awards the French company CMA CGM a 10-year contract to manage, operate and maintain the container terminal in Beirut port.
The Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamiyah, told “Archyde.com” today, Thursday, that Lebanon has awarded the French company CMA CGM a 10-year contract to manage, operate and maintain the container terminal in the port of Beirut.
In a tweet on its Twitter account, the French company stated that operations will start in March 2022 and will last 10 years.

Through it, she indicated that $33 million will be invested in the container terminal in Beirut Port, including $19 million over the first two years, explaining that the amount will be allocated to “a complete modernization of the infrastructure, and the establishment of a new technical facility for maintenance and storage of spare parts.”
The company added that the plan includes the adoption of “the latest management and improvement systems and the interconnection between the various operations and operators within the port community, and the improvement of environmental performance, through the purchase of environmentally friendly equipment.”
The company pointed out that the “CMA CGM” group, which was established in Lebanon 43 years ago, is closely linked to the Port of Beirut, which plays a vital economic role in the capital and the country.
And she continued, “After the complete acquisition of the container terminal inside the port of Tripoli in 2021, and the creation of nearly 800 jobs during the past two years, the group works today with nearly a thousand employees in Lebanon, and 400 new job opportunities will be pursued” during the next year.
In turn, Rodolphe Saade, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, expressed his happiness at returning Beirut Port, saying, “We will very quickly launch an ambitious investment plan that will make it a high-performance terminal that meets the best international standards.”
