The Assassination of Luis Gonzales Rojas: A Detailed Account of a Twisted Plan

After nearly nine hours of debate, locked in a bubble cut off from the world, twelve citizens of Hainaut brought the judicial truth in the context of the assassination of Luis Gonzales Rojas, which took place on the night of February 16 to 17, 2020 in Bois d’Haine (Manage). Anneliese Audain, companion of the victim, and Didier Bauwens, the brave uncle Didier, are the perpetrators of this assassination, despite their denials.

Anneliese Audain reacted by shedding a few tears. Didier Bauwens kept his frank and dark look. They gave the impression of being caught red-handed.

A thoughtful and prepared crime

It was indeed an assassination that was carried out that night, a carefully planned and thought-out homicide, which might have been perfect in the 80s, at a time when new technologies did not exist.

On Sunday February 16, Anneliese Audain arranged for Luis to be alone in the house on rue de l’Egalité. She ensured that her daughter spent the night with her godmother and rushed to drive Luis’ son back to his mother’s house in Tubize, following watching one last football match with his dad. The child had to leave once more the next day.

Before the match, she made them a salad, in two different containers. She sent a message to Didier, informing him that Luis had enjoyed himself, that he had even licked his plate. The poor man did not know that there was Diazepam in his dish, an anxiolytic which quickly knocked him out. When the son left, around 10:45 p.m., Luis was sleepy.

In the car, Anneliese justified herself to the child regarding this rapid departure. It was to spend a romantic day with Luis, three days following Valentine’s Day. What cynicism! She had other, more macabre plans.

Night outings

When she returned home, Anneliese did not go to bed. She walked a lot, notably going towards the Canal du Centre. Worried regarding not seeing Luis return, she set out to look for him for twenty-four minutes. Surprising when you love someone that much!

She exchanged messages with Didier, which were curiously deleted. And then, in the middle of the night, she emptied Luis’ bank accounts, notably using a QR code created by his phone! Luis no longer had a cent in his savings account!

Internet searches

And then the investigation revealed other relentless things, like internet searches regarding the side effects of Diazepam, of which a half-empty box was found in her home.

Didier Bauwens, Uncle Didier for some, Anneliese’s doggie for others, also did a lot of research on the Internet, a few days before the crime: Diazepam, the 22 caliber compatible with the murder weapon, the hours of navigation on the Center Canal.

The jurors note that he went to the canal numerous times, on February 14 and 15, 2020, which was not his habit.

Two witnesses

According to a witness, Didier Bauwens bought him a 22 caliber, through his brother. In June, this brother asked him if he had kept traces of powder on his hands.

Finally, the testimony of the cleaning lady was also included in the reasoning for the judgment. This lady had been forced to scrub the house on rue de l’Égalité, with bleach and other new and corrosive products, three days following the discovery of Luis’ body, riddled with nine bullets, lying in a tarpaulin. Two shots were fired while Luis was lying on the tarpaulin, two traces attest to this, the jurors note.

Not a perfect crime

Anneliese Audain and Didier Bauwens perhaps believed they had committed the perfect crime, the one that leaves no trace. Unfortunately for them, their criminal plan was stopped by a stone or a block of concrete, which prevented Luis’ van, his hearse, from sliding into the canal. Science and new technologies have demonstrated that their lies do not hold water.

On Thursday, a long prison sentence awaits them…
