THE comedy drama film The Art of Understanding a Lover launched its official trailer and poster on Wednesday (7/8). Starring Elang El Gibran and Febby Rastanty, the film directed by Jeihan Angga will be released on 5 September.
The story in this film is adapted directly from a book entitled Sebuah Seni Mengejar Kekasih by Agus Mulyadi. This film tells the love journey of Agus and his wife Kalis Mardiasih, two simple people who struggle to reach the level of marriage.
“We made the story of the Art of Understanding Lovers into a film because we see that love can and is very permissible to be fought for by anyone. Agus and Kalis’ struggle is the same as all of our struggles. We want to share the spirit of love with Indonesian film audiences,” said the producer of the film The Art of Understanding Lovers Susanti Dewi in a press conference, Wednesday (7/8).
In contrast to the story journey in most films that feature the figures of the rich and the poor, this film instead takes the figures of Agus and Kalis who are indeed nobodies, and can even be said to be born into lower-middle class families.
Susanti explained that there are many lessons that can be conveyed to the public from the story of these two simple people, including the struggle to be together and have a happy ending.
“Through this film, we want to convey that in life, with love, any obstacle can be overcome. Any limitation in life can be broken through (with love). So we see the story of the Art of Understanding Lovers as important to be presented to Indonesian audiences,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jeihan Angga admitted that the film Seni Mengenal Kekasih will be very different from his previous films. This is also Jeihan’s first film to use Javanese because he wants to present the originality of the story of Agus and Kalis who come from Yogyakarta.
“Here we also present players who have the best quality and I didn’t expect that Elang El Gibran is so extraordinary (in acting). I have worked with him several times and seen him in other film projects, he seems serious, but when I play here, oh, I can explore too and that’s very fun,” said Jeihan.
Although it presents a story about the journey of two young couples with a comedy drama genre, it does not mean that the entire film is only about comedy and romance. There are also issues related to women’s rights there.
“Ms. Kalis is a figure who really fights for women’s rights, this film is quite strong in raising that issue. So it’s not just haha hihi about Agus and Kalis’ love,” he said.
For your information, Seni Mengejar Kekasih will be the first comedy drama film released by IDN Pictures this year. In addition to starring Febby and Elang, other players such as Devina Aureel, Sisca Saras, Desy Genoveva, Yusril Fahriza, and Benecdivity will appear there. (M-3)
