Dance, theater, music, humor and even magic, the new season of the Théâtre du Crochetan is available in 52 offerings. Spotlight on the highlights with Benjamin Cuche and Jean-Luc Barbezat, expected this Thursday in Monthey.
The show
When we ask Benjamin Cuche and Jean-Luc Barbezat why they embarked on a show paying homage to their own people, the answer bursts out, both prosaic and mischievous: “Because no one else will!” This “Homage to Cuche and Barbezat by Cuche and Barbezat before it is too late!”, to be seen on September 21 at the Théâtre du Crochetan, in Monthey, or at Reflet, in Vevey, on March 15 and in Boulimie, in Lausanne, from April 24 to 26, offers a selection of the sketches that have made the Neuchâtel duo famous since 1986 and their first show, “Rien”.

If self-deprecation has long been part of the DNA of comedians established in Vaud, it finds a new field of expression in this best of. “We look back at what we did when we performed “The Penis Puppets” in Paris (editor’s note: French-speaking version of the Australian show “Puppetry of the Penis”, for which the pair stripped themselves in 2004) or that we participated in the Knie tour for example (editor’s note: in 2008)», explains Jean-Luc Barbezat.
This with the letting go that the passing years allow: “Age pushes us to look for more inner things,” says the actor. Without losing the desire to laugh and make people laugh: “It’s good to get old when it comes to the end,” retorts Benjamin Cuche.
The room
This won’t be the duo’s first time at Crochetan. The actors highlight the eclecticism of the programming and the vision of Lorenzo Malaguerra, director of the room, but also head of the city’s Cultural Department and president of the Conference of Valais Cultural Delegates.
Locations
The comedy shows scheduled this season at Monthey obviously stood out to the duo: those of Stéphane Guillon (November 21), Frédéric Recrosio (December 21) or even “Simply The Best” by Sandrine Viglino (January 20, 2024).
“Le Journal de Monthey”, a theatrical cabaret put on by the French actor Édouard Baer with people from the region, also caught their eye (May 6, 2024). “It makes you want to be part of this evening,” comments Jean-Luc Barbezat. He is also delighted to see “The Bear”, a legendary work by Anton Chekhov, in a production by Lorenzo Malaguerra (December 13 to 17).
Great place given to humor in this season at Monthey. In addition to the shows already mentioned, Thomas Wiesel (November 11), Marie-Thérèse Porchet (December 9) and Vincent Dedienne will perform there with “Un soir de gala”, alone on stage for which he received the Molière for humor in 2022 (March 6, 2024).
Among the French-speaking stars, Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Laura Smet will take the stage in “The Uncertainty Principle” (October 31), Pierre Richard in “I am there but I am not there” (January 24, 2024) and Catherine Frot will be part of the cast of “When the child appears” (February 6, 2024).
On the music side, Imany will surround herself with eight cellos to transform pop hits, from Radiohead to Cat Stevens via Hozier and Bob Marley (October 28), Thomas Fersen will revisit his oldest titles in “My brother is God on Earth » (April 23, 2024). We will also remember “Chora”, creation of the German-Swiss company Cocoondance, where the public will be invited to join the dance.
