The arrest file brings together crowds of professors in front of Parliament, and security prevents their march towards the ministry

Crowds of professors gathered this morning, Monday, April 21, in a protest in front of Parliament in Rabat, denouncing the ongoing arrests of dozens of their colleagues, due to their participation in strikes and protests related to the statute.

This pause, called for by the Field Educational Coordination, coincided with a national strike in the national education sector, where the protesting professors raised slogans denouncing the arbitrary and illegal measures once morest their colleagues. They also demanded that the detainees be returned to their departments without conditions.

In addition, the protesters demanded respect for rights and freedoms, most notably the right to protest and strike guaranteed by national laws and international conventions.

On the other hand, the demonstrators denounced the policies followed in the sector by the government and the guardian ministry, accusing them of “perpetuating fragility and submitting to the recommendations of international financial institutions,” while demanding that their “just and legitimate” demands be met, and that “all disciplinary measures and penalties be stopped.”

In contrast, security forces surrounded the professors’ protests and prevented the organization of the protest march that was scheduled towards the headquarters of the Guardian Ministry in Bab Al-Rawah.

According to the testimonies of some protesters, the security forces surrounded the massive protest from all sides, closing all the streets and alleys linking the headquarters of Parliament and the Ministry of National Education.

In response to this issue, Abdul Wahab Al-Suhaimi, a member of the field educational coordination, stated that “the coordination forces found themselves forced to draw up a new struggle program that includes strikes and protests, following the ministry’s indifference and the continued abuse and arrests.”

Al-Suhaimi criticized “the ministry’s lack of positive interaction following the field coordination announced the suspension of the protests, as it did not intend to open dialogue with the professors and did not settle the outstanding issues,” stressing that “its practices are what force a return to protest and strike.”

The union activist concluded by emphasizing that “the protest will not stop until the detainees are returned without restrictions or conditions, and a serious and responsible dialogue is opened that leads to resolving the outstanding issues, a fair and comprehensive settlement, and the lifting of all forms of injustice once morest the professor.”

It should be noted that the new national landing comes in implementation of the protest program drawn up by most educational coordination following long weeks of suspension, which calls for holding protests during the break period inside most educational institutions throughout the days of April 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20, 2024, and for a general national strike in the sector on the 22nd.
