He added, in a special session of the Security Council, today, Thursday, that violations must be addressed within the armistice mechanisms, encouraging the Yemeni parties to develop them.

In addition, the UN envoy said that the truce witnessed the entry of fuel and aid ships to the ports of Hodeidah, pointing to the need to open roads to Taiz in order to facilitate the movement of Yemenis.

He stressed the need to continue to implement and abide by the truce in Yemen, noting that it is temporary and fragile, and work must be done to stabilize it.

He also stated that Saudi Arabia and Oman worked hard to reach the armistice, indicating that the United Nations had discussed ways to strengthen and extend it.

He explained that the issue of the exchange of Yemeni detainees has witnessed remarkable progress.

Formation of a presidential council is an important step

On the Riyadh consultations, the UN envoy said that they affirmed their commitment to a political solution, praising the decision of Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi to delegate his powers to the Presidential Leadership Council.

He stressed the need for Yemenis to engage in negotiations to reach a political solution, stressing that the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council is an important step for Yemen’s stability.

He added that Yemenis need effective governance to get out of the economic crisis, noting that he will hold additional consultations on Yemen following Ramadan.

In parallel, Martin Griffiths, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs, said that the truce is important and has a positive impact on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, noting that the number of victims has decreased thanks to it.

He also explained that fuel and cargo ships arrive successively at the ports of Hodeidah, pointing to the necessity of transporting fuel from the Safer tank to safer warehouses.

Griffiths praised the role of Saudi Arabia and the UAE in helping the Yemeni currency recover, noting that the Gulf Cooperation Council, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have contributed to supporting the Yemeni economy.

He also expressed his hope for a sustainable political solution to the conflict in Yemen, indicating the need for more funding for humanitarian programs, saying that a number of UN employees are still detained by the Houthis.

truce for two months

It is noteworthy that the armistice plan announced by the United Nations last week is supposed to last two months.

It is expected to include allowing commercial flights from Sanaa International Airport, which has been open only to aid planes since 2016.

It will also allow the entry of oil campaigns to the port of Hodeidah, as well as opening roads in Taiz and other Yemeni governorates.

In addition to all of these provisions, the armistice, of course, stipulated that all offensive air, land, and naval military operations inside Yemen and across its borders must cease.
