The Arena evacuated before the Lomepal concert due to “a threat”

A year ago, war broke out between Ukraine and Russia. Millions of Ukrainians have been forced to move to save their lives. Some within the country itself, others have fled abroad. Most were women and children, the men might not leave Ukraine.

Switzerland, for its part, received more than 75,000 Ukrainians. Including 4,000 in Geneva, which represents half of the refugees who arrived in the canton in 2022. Arrivals which were higher between the months of May and July

To manage this situation, the Geneva authorities set up a working group, including the Geneva Red Cross.

A complex reception to set up. The details of Stéphanie Lambert, the director general of the Geneva Red Cross:

Today, it is difficult to say how many people have returned to Ukraine.

Community interpreting saw a sharp increase last year, +20% compared to 2021, which represents more than 7,000 hours.

What are Ukrainian refugees asking for first? Stephanie Lambert:

And how was the reception of the children?

In 2023, the Geneva Red Cross has plans to further improve the reception of refugees, regardless of their origin. Stephanie Lambert:

Finally, the latest figures, in December, 2,500 Christmas baskets were distributed by the Red Cross in Geneva.

This is 2.5% more than in 2019 and before the Covid crisis. 10,000 people were able to benefit from it. Families received something to celebrate Christmas with food and gifts.
