Venezuela requested Spain to extradite one of the members of the Aragua Train, a feared criminal gang born in Venezuela whose tentacles have spread to Latin America and the United States, the prosecutor’s office reported this Tuesday.
“In recent days, the brother of ‘Niño Guerrero’ (leader of the Aragua Train), Gerson Isaac Guerrero Flores, was arrested in Spain due to a red alert requested by the Public Ministry of Venezuela, and we have started the extradition process,” said the prosecutor Tarek William Saab in a statement to the press.
The Spanish authorities announced on March 14 the arrest of the Venezuelan criminal in Barcelona, Spain, wanted for “his alleged participation in crimes of terrorism, trafficking in human beings, arms trafficking, extortion, money laundering and association to commit a crime.” according to the National Police.
His brother, Héctor Guerrero, known by the alias “Niño Guerrero”, is on the list of 21 Venezuelan criminals with a red alert before Interpol.
The Venezuelan government offers a reward of $250,000 for information leading to the capture of Guerrero, accused of multiple crimes, including homicide, kidnapping and terrorism.
Venezuelan authorities affirm that the criminal organization was dismantled following the intervention, on September 20, 2023, of the Tocorón prison (Aragua state, north) from where “Niño Guerrero” and his accomplices managed this gang, which also had an arsenal of war within the enclosure.
The prosecutor indicated that the investigations into the so-called Aragua Train began in 2019 and since then 44 of its members have been arrested, while 102 have arrest warrants. “It is a relentless fight once morest this criminal gang,” said Saab.
The prosecutor also stated that 10 other criminal gangs have been “dismantled or severely beaten” in the last five years, totaling 166 detainees, 32 convicted and 144 arrest warrants.
