He added that the world was unable to contain the war in Gaza until we were faced with a new “tragedy” experienced by the Lebanese people who live under bombardment, threatened in their security and social stability by the reality of the large displacement movement since last September, which added 1.2 million displaced people to a country that is already bearing more than a million. The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States affirmed that Israel is practicing “killing for the sake of killing, and the occupation leader has no agenda other than the internal agenda. He does not want to end the war in Gaza or in Lebanon, but rather is eager to expand its territory to drag the entire region into the swamp of bloody violence and madness.”
Aboul Gheit called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and the full and undiminished implementation of Resolution 1701, in a way that achieves security on both sides of the border and stops bloodshed.
He stressed the role of the international community, especially the United States of America and the European countries that are friends of Israel, “to put an end to this senseless killing, which will take the people of Gaza decades to recover from its devastating effects.”
