The appointment of Kylian Mbappe as captain of the French national team… and the coach explains the reason

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – France coach Didier Deschamps announced the appointment of young player Kylian Mbappe as captain of the national team, in the next stage.

The position of captain of the “roosters” was vacant after goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and defender Raphael Varane retired from international football, after the World Cup in Qatar.

Deschamps explained that the 24-year-old striker will wear the armband, while his colleague Antoine Griezmann (32 years) will be his deputy.

Didier Deschamps said, in media statements reported by “Euro Sport”: “Mbappe has the ability to assume responsibility and carry out his roles on and off the field,” while the current French defender Ibrahima Konate commented, saying: “Mbappe deserves it, and we agree on this.”

Kylian Mbappe is preparing to appear as captain of his country against France and the Netherlands, on March 24, in the first round of the 2024 European Nations Cup qualifiers.

Mbappe has 66 international matches, during which he scored 36 goals, and he led the “Roosters” to win the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
