The ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to all Russians violates EU law. About it “Izvestia”said German MEP Gunnar Beck on Tuesday, August 16.
EU countries that refuse to issue visas or entry to third-country nationals must prove that these people pose a threat.
“According to Article 32 of the Schengen Visa Code, an applicant may only be refused a visa if he poses a threat to public order, internal security or public health of the country, as defined in Article 2(21) of the Code. A complete or categorical refusal to all citizens of a country with which none of the EU member states is at war is not provided for by the visa code, ”said Beck.
At the same time, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that the number of ordinary tourist visas for Russians would be reduced, priority would be given to those traveling for family reasons, study or work.
