The “Apple” watch measures the level of oxygen in the blood… How do you benefit from it?
The Apple Watch smart watch allows measuring the level of oxygen in the blood directly from the user’s wrist, thanks to an application called Blood Oxygen from Apple itself.
Before going into the details of the application, the company warns that the measurements provided by “blood oxygen” are not intended for medical use, and are only designed for general fitness and wellness purposes.
What is oxygen in the blood?
The oxygen level in the blood is the percentage of oxygen that red blood cells carry from the lungs to the rest of the body.
The majority of people have a blood oxygen level of 95 to 100 percent. However, some people live normal lives with blood oxygen levels less than 95 percent. The percentage is expected to decrease slightly during sleep, and some users may experience a level below 95 percent.
Terms of use of “blood oxygen”
To use this application, it is required that it be available in the user’s country, have an iPhone 6s or later, upgrade the operating system to a version of iOS, and update Apple Watch versions 6, 7, 8, or Ultra to the latest version of watchOS .
The application is not available for use by persons under the age of 18, so the age must be indicated in the health profile.
In order to set up the “Blood Oxygen” application, follow these steps:
- On your iPhone, open the Health app.
- Follow the steps on the screen.
- If you do not see the setup request message, click on “Browse”.
- Then click on “Respiratory System”, then “Blood Oxygen”, then “Enable”.
- After completing the setup, open Blood Oxygen on your Apple Watch to measure your blood oxygen levels.
And if the user does not see the “Blood Oxygen” application on the “Apple Watch”, he can search the App Store on the “Apple Watch” for Blood Oxygen and download it. If the user deletes the Blood Oxygen app, they can install it once more from the Store.
How do you measure oxygen in the blood using the “Apple Watch” and “blood oxygen”?
- Make sure the watch is snug and comfortable on your wrist
- Open “Blood Oxygen” on the “Apple Watch”
- Stay still and make sure your wrist is flat with the Apple Watch facing upwards.
- Press “start,” then hold your arm still for 15 seconds
- At the end of the measurement you will receive the results
- Click Done.
For best results, place your arms on a table or in your lap while taking the measurement. Keep your wrist and palm down, flat, and as still as possible.
And make sure that the Apple Watch is not loose on your wrist. The strap should be snug and comfortable, and the back of the Apple Watch should be touching your wrist.
Also, make sure that the back of the Apple Watch is flush with the top of your wrist. If your wrist bones overlap, move your watch one to two inches up your arm, away from your wrist bone.
