From the time of Prodi to the charm of the magistrates: the Anti-Mafia only does politics. It’s a river in flood Antonio Laudati, as he calls left and right in the first days in which the dossier scandal rages. As had already happened in Bari, with those spies who were following the trail of the investigation into Silvio Berlusconi, the deputy prosecutor tries to save himself by throwing everyone into the cauldron, except him.
In the documents of the Perugia Prosecutor’s Office, which investigates the illicit access to the Super Prosecutor’s Office by Giovanni Falcone, there is an interception, from 5 March 2024, in which Laudati speaks on the telephone with Alberto Cisterna, former deputy prosecutor at the DNA and now president of the XIII section of the Civil Court of Rome. The two colleagues commented with alarm at the news about that wormhole of illegal access, carried out by the financier Pasquale Striano in collaboration with Laudati, and then passed the confidential information to the journalists of Domani. The magistrate under investigation is outraged, the newspapers are defining him as the “anti-Knight prosecutor” as well as the author, together with the financier, of those dossiers against centre-right politicians.
Cisterna tries to reassure him: «I read everything, but since I have a bad memory… I remembered that in 2006 the Milan Prosecutor’s Office put together something similar, identical, saying that there were the dossiers of Tim and by making a decree… directly to Prodi, with which they canceled all the records of the famous Tim scandal which obviously didn’t exist, with the same trend, that is, you go to the political power, you alarm him, you tell him that there is a dossier, the political power gets scared, those make a measure, those make a career, they earn merit, since it is an exact replica, because I remember what happened then, which was something never seen before, with which the 240 was modified of the penal code… since here every now and then the magistrates have the habit of alarming politics, and neither of them are unused to it, never mind.”
An unexpected turn for the magistrate determined not to be seen as a spy. Who, at that point, takes the opportunity and tries to shift the responsibility onto the new chief Anti-Mafia prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo, not imagining, at that moment, that Melillo himself, two days after that phone call, would show up in Anti-Mafia Commission, with its long hearing in which it outlined the SOS sieve inherited from its predecessor, the current Five Star MP Federico Cafiero De Raho, and explained the new stringent directives which upon its arrival had sent the spies into a rage, unable to have a free hand in illicit intrusions.
«First of all, the investigations were all carried out in October 2022, those on the new government, those where there is speculation», Laudati says to his colleague, «when Melillo was already there, and Melillo had become the SOS manager, and this one here (Striano, ed.) was also his trusted man.” It’s a shame that in the new papers sent by the prosecutor Raffaele Cantone to the Commission there is a report, complete with investigative findings, from which not only does it emerge that Melillo, having realized that more than one thing was wrong with the SOS group, had decided to oust Striano, but that it was Laudati himself who wanted the same financier, who had worked in Reggio Calabria when De Raho was prosecutor, to head that section.
Laudati, unaware of everything that would come out of Pandora’s box, continues to say that the dossier case is all speculation. «Roberti was a candidate, Cafiero was a candidate, Grasso was president of the Senate… then it is clear that one says, but if the Anti-Mafia is there, they are doing it for political speculation, which is me, but imagine from this thing which for me was a huge bullshit, I find myself written, you know what I went through in Bari, now I find myself written “the anti-Knight prosecutor”.
