It is with deep sadness that the AMS Vienna says goodbye to Claudia Finster, who left us far too early today at the age of 69.
Claudia Finster has always lived for the AMS. She learned “labour market administration” from scratch, as in her early days she sat at the counter in Schwechat and helped people find jobs.
Claudia Finster’s commitment to the organization was not only exemplary, but also demanding. She was a hard worker who expected the same commitment from others. She was uncompromising about herself and her health.
At the same time, she always remained relatable as a person: she never put on a mask, and you could always tell whether certain events or developments in the AMS, “her” AMS, had her approval. She wasn’t afraid of conflict and wasn’t interested in flattery: she was too honest a person for that, even towards herself.
“I have had a decades-long friendship and collegiality with Claudia Finster that is second to none,” says Winfried Göschl, today’s regional manager of the AMS Vienna. “We worked together fantastically: she always had a clear picture in mind, was technically sound and appreciative and humorous when working together. The gap it leaves behind is huge.”
As regional manager from 2000 to 2012, she had a significant impact on the organization. The highlight of her work was certainly to have dissolved the outdated structure of the “skilled employment offices” in one fell swoop and thereby shaped the organization in a way that lasted well beyond her term of office.
Claudia Finster was a family man. In her pension she retreated to her house in Burgenland, where she suddenly died on Monday night.
