The quantity of data included in telecom operators’ mobile plans has increased significantly in 2023, without causing an explosion in costs for consumers, notes the Belgian Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (IBPT) on Friday in a new market report mobile. By leveraging competition, consumers can also make up to 120 euros in annual savings, notes the regulator.
The new BIPT analysis shows that mobile subscriptions have seen strong developments over the last twelve months, with, among other things, notable increases in data and the appearance of new plans at attractive prices.
A phenomenon which can be explained by a more competitive mobile market, according to the Institute. The consumer, whether they have low or very high needs, has the choice among a wider range of offers, both in terms of financial accessibility and choice of operator.
According to the latest statistics, two thirds (66%) of residential customers opt for ‘standalone’ mobile, without any other additional service, while the remaining third include it in a pack.
Consumers can make significant savings by comparing all available offers and making greater use of competition, underlines the regulator. The maximum possible annual savings compared to what we would pay at least with an incumbent operator can be up to 120 euros, he points out.
“The changing nature of the offers proposed by operators must encourage consumers to evaluate their real needs in terms of telecommunications and to regularly repeat the comparison exercise, in order to ensure that they do not miss new, more advantageous solutions since its last choice. This observation is particularly true for mobile subscriptions”, insists the BIPT, referring to its price comparator Meilleurtarif.be.
