North Jutland has described the situation where four out of twelve ambulances were out of service, and this illustrates a deep problem: the people of North Jutland are being let down when they most need help.
It is particularly worrying that Region North Jutland, which chose to take over the ambulance operation in 2022 with the promise of savings and improved service, is now performing significantly worse than the private provider PreMed.
In July, as many as 14 percent of the region’s ambulances were out of service, while PreMed only had 1.1 percent out of service.
It is difficult to see the difference as just a coincidence – it is more a symptom of a management that has not managed to secure the necessary resources and a good working environment.
Thus, the lack of ambulances cannot simply be reduced to a matter of statistical anomaly; it has concrete consequences for citizens’ lives and safety.
When a third of the ambulances in Aalborg and Vendsyssel stand idle on a single day, the risk increases that acutely ill residents of North Jutland will not receive the necessary help in time.
And it is not enough to point to recruitment difficulties and poor well-being as causes – solutions must be found and implemented quickly.
There is no room for more excuses when it comes to citizens’ lives.
The people of North Jutland have a right to an ambulance operation that works efficiently and reliably, regardless of whether it is run by the region itself or a private provider.
Gradually, the region’s citizens have waited long enough for the promised improvements, and therefore the political and administrative leadership must take responsibility and put action behind the words.
This is a leader. It was written by a member of our board of directors and expresses Nordjutske’s position.
