Moreover, the series Rings of Power will innovate, daring to do what New Zealand director Peter Jackson never did in either of his two trilogies, The Lord of the Rings et The Hobbit. Information that will greatly surprise fans, considering that Peter Jackson’s films have never shown female Orcas. Besides, they are not explicitly mentioned in JRR Tolkien’s books. It is also known that Gollum ate an Orc child, another proof of their evolution. Tolkien had indeed noted the existence of female Orcs in a letter dating from October 1963, in response to questions from a certain Miss Munby.
If this confidence shows all the knowledge that the showrunners have of Tolkien’s work, it remains to be seen how Orc women will be represented. Will they be fundamentally different from males? Otherwise, revealing too much regarding their organization and their way of life might well be a weaknessgiven that the laconic aspect of our knowledge of Orcs contributes to the terror they arouse.
