The Guyanese cyclist, Dilhan Will, 6 times wearing the yellow jersey during the Tour de la Martinique finished in 5th place. Nevertheless, upon his arrival at Félix Eboué airport, he received a delirious welcome, commensurate with the enthusiasm he aroused by his exceptional sporting performance and his humility as a champion. He did good to Guyana.

Guyanese flags galore, tambouyens excited, an airport hall filled with a jubilant crowd here is what awaited, this Monday, July 17, the cycling selection of Guyana with its leader, the young Dilhan Will.

A spectacle that may have seemed surprising given the final result of Dilhan Will, who finished 5th overall in the Martinique Cycling Tour. But, no matter, the essential is elsewhere. For 8 days, he will have revealed, on Martinique lands, day following day, the sporting and mental qualities that make him a champion and an undisputed leader.
Accompanying Dilhan and his teammates on this Tour de Martinique will have had a cathartic effect on many of us. Finally, an opportunity to glorify oneself, finally a valued image of French Guiana, finally daring to express joy and pride.

And in less than 3 weeks, rebelote, Dilhan and his friends from the selection will be at the Tour of Guadeloupe from August 4 to August 13 and there is no doubt that they will be eagerly awaited by the other competitors. The grail, for the Guyanese, will be to follow the Tour of Guyana from August 19 to 27. Let’s bet that our athletes will be able to arouse, once once more, Guyanese fervor on the side of the roads.
