Tisza-Partei

On Saturday in Budapest, Péter Magyar announced the end of the “street fighting” and the beginning of a new era, with the aim of initiating a system change. The MEP from the Tisza Party promised a fundamental renewal of Hungary in front of numerous supporters in the MOM sports park.

“We need all Hungarians to win the parliamentary elections in 2026,” Magyar said, before announcing the creation of Tisza “islands.” These are communities of people who are neither right nor left, but simply Hungarians.

Donations from within the country are welcome

Starting in the autumn, Tisza’s politicians will once once more travel the country to spread their message of an alternative to Fidesz to the most remote corners. On June 9, the new formation caused a world sensation with a “glider”, but a “huge fleet of passenger planes” will be needed for the next parliamentary elections. With this image, the aspiring MEP wanted to show that a powerful political party needs more support. To this end, the “Membership for a System Change” program was launched, which 15,000 Hungarians have so far joined. Magyar asked the assembled supporters to contribute to the success according to their means and promised transparent accounting of the funds. At the same time, he made it clear that, as in the past, no donations from abroad would be accepted in the future.

“Our goal is to replace the Orbán government and the head of government who is treated as ‘persona non grata’ in the EU, to dismantle the ‘gangster system’ and to lead Hungary back to Europe.”

Real, competent challengers

Similar to the selection of MEPs (the Tisza party won seven seats in the European Parliament straight away), 106 candidates for the individual constituencies are to be selected from the end of the month, who will run for the Tisza party in the local parliamentary elections in 2026. “On June 9, more than 1.35 million people voted for the Tisza party to become a real, competent challenger to the Orbán ‘gangster system.’ That is a huge responsibility, but at the same time it gives them the authority to end the nightmare of the last twenty years,” explained Magyar, who also blamed the opposition parties and their top politicians for not considering resigning following each new failure and thus keeping Fidesz in power for far too long.

No political trading with old parties

Regarding the situation in Budapest City Hall, where the Tisza Party has the largest faction with ten city councillors, on a par with Fidesz-KDNP, the political newcomer warned: “Mayor Gergely Karácsony has already invited me to a one-on-one meeting. But I would also like to say here: The politicians of the Tisza Party cannot be bought!” There will be no political bargaining with the ally of former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány. In the Budapest City Council, the Tisza Party will only support proposals that are based on facts.

He personally wants to deal with agricultural issues in the European Parliament; Magyar described the modernization of rural areas as a strategic concern of the Tisza party. As a member of the EPP group, he wants to influence the important decisions in Europe, something which he believes Fidesz is not allowed to do. Specifically, Magyar wants to negotiate with the President of Parliament in just a few days how Hungary can obtain the blocked funding.
