“I find it strange that the Continental closed… There was always a queue…” confides a loyal customer of the Alma center in Rennes. Since mid-January, this historic brasserie in the shopping center, located opposite Carrefour, has been closed due to judicial liquidation.
“The Continental closed overnight,” says a saleswoman from a neighboring store. “The employees found out the same day. » A sudden closure which questions many traders. Even if some are less surprised. “Since the manager died in 2021, things have not been going well,” says a fast food employee.

In recent months, other brands have lowered their grilles in the Alma center. Among them, we include the Mexican restaurant Nachos and the children’s ready-to-wear boutique Sergent-Major, at the end of 2023. Another boutique of the brand had also closed at the Colombia center. Located a few steps from the SFR and Orange brands, the Sergent-Major premises, still closed, “might be taken over by another mobile operator”, says a neighboring trader. The Alma center has also not been spared from the difficulties of national ready-to-wear brands. Camaïeu, for example, closed its store at the end of 2022.
“It’s not uncommon to see stores set up and then leave. Some come back sometimes, when the time is more favorable,” comments a trader. Another element can explain this significant turnover: the price of rent. “Each time the lease is renewed, at the end of the year, we see that the amount has increased.”
Multiple openings
However, the number of vacant cells remains relatively limited in Alma. New brands continue to set up there. In recent months, three new stores have opened: Devred, Lacoste and FootKorner.
Specializing in the sale of football clothing, FootKorner opened on February 28. This boutique is the brand’s first in the West. “We are happy, the customers are there,” rejoices an employee. It must be said that the brand is very present on social networks. The Rennes store’s TikTok videos already have several thousand views.
Lacoste also chose the Alma center for its new store in the Breton capital. “The proximity to the ring road allows us to attract customers well beyond Rennes,” explains the store manager. “This store is also larger than the one in the city center,” he explains. The Alma center continues to renew itself. Next opening: a Korean restaurant from the Chikin Bang chain, already present in Paris and Lyon.
