The weather conditions and falling water levels indicate that the flood situation on the Danube is easing, the country’s hydrographic service reported at 1:30 p.m.
The water levels along the Danube are trending downwards. The all-clear was given from Grein, Mauthausen and Linz. Inn, Traun and Enns also show a downward trend.

Flood – like at Christmas 1992
OÖN reader Hubert Altenhofer sent us a picture from 1992. This year too, the Traun overflowed its banks. A couple even brought the Christmas tree by boat.

Podcast season about the record flood
June 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of the flood disaster of 2013. To mark the occasion, we produced a five-part podcast season in which we spoke, among others, to Peter Kickinger from the state’s hydrographic service:
400 liters of rain per square meter – a third of the annual rainfall, several record water levels on the Danube, 228 communities affected, 22 of them to an unimaginable extent – that was the flood disaster in 2013.
On June 2, 2013, the flood hit Upper Austria with full force. In some places there is as much rain as in a month and a half. The situation is tense: are the protective structures holding?
The second day of the 2013 flood in Upper Austria: The situation is getting worse, the water levels continue to rise, 580 weirs are in use. Many people need to be rescued from their homes.
While the worst is already over in some regions, there is still fear and hope along the Danube. In Grein it’s ultimately a matter of a few centimeters. Goldwörth, on the other hand, is literally sinking.
The water leaves one thing behind: a lot of dirt. But what remains after this catastrophe: knowledge about the operational capability and strength of the emergency services and civil society.
