Social media users circulated a video showing a bearded man dancing at a party with two girls, and accounts and pages claimed that he belonged to the Algerian sheikh, Walid Mahsas, who was famous for the video of a cat climbing his shoulder during Tarawih prayers this Ramadan.
The site mentionedprobeThe video is not of Sheikh Mahsas, and the clip is old and published since January 2022 on the TikTok website, with hashtags related to Pakistan.
By searching for other scenes related to the man appearing in the video, Misbar found another video clip documenting the same event, but filmed from a different angle.
By comparing the features, it was found that he is a different person, not Sheikh Mahsas.
While Misbar did not confirm the identity of the person appearing in the clip, the difference in features negates the allegation.
The claim came following the spread of a video clip of the Algerian sheikh when the cat climbed his shoulder while praying, and it achieved millions of views around the world.
And the Algerian sheikh, Walid Mahassas, is the imam of the Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque in the state of Bordj Bou Arreridj, eastern Algeria.
