The Alec Baldwin Rust Lawsuit: Updates, Trials, and Controversies

The actor, targeted by a complaint filed by three members of the team, is trying to have his lawyers reject it when he might be charged once more with manslaughter.

Awaiting a possible new indictment for manslaughter in the Rust case, Alec Baldwin is trying this week to prevent other members of the independent film team from pressing charges once morest him. A hearing will take place this Wednesday to decide on this file, according to the American press.

Lawyers for the comedian have filed a motion to dismiss a complaint filed in February by three members of the Rust crew – cameraman Ross Addiego, costume designer Doran Curtin and stagehand Reese Price. They accuse Alec Baldwin and the producers of “dangerous and negligent conduct”.

They claim to suffer from anxiety attacks and post-traumatic stress disorder. According to the complaint, the three were located not far from Alec Baldwin when the shot went off, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Halyna Huchins reportedly fell at the foot of Doran Curtin.

Trial in 2024

Alec Baldwin has always maintained his innocence. According to him, he had been assured that his weapon was harmless, and he denied having pulled the trigger. An assertion questioned by many experts. Indicted earlier this year for manslaughter, he saw the charges dropped in March.

But the actor might be targeted once more by similar charges. A new forensic report released recently claims that the gun responsible for the death of Halyna Hutchins might only fire a shot if the trigger was pulled.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s gunsmith, who was charged last January with manslaughterand faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine, was charged last June withtampering with evidence. His trial will take place in 2024.
