Launched under theme “AIDS is still here… Let’s make a donation!”, the Association wishes to alert through its campaign on the consequences of the health crisis linked to Covid-19 on the response to HIV/AIDS in Morocco, as well as on “the drastic decline in funding for the fight once morest this virus.
Referring to data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of 2022, theALCS worried regarding the “significant drop in the number of HIV tests carried out in Morocco over the past three years “. A total of 275,439 were made in 2021, “compared to 300,640 in 2020 and 388,141 in 2019”.
This decline of almost 30% in three years “explains in large part that in Morocco in 2021, regarding one in six people living with HIV still do not know their HIV status”, she specifies. For’ALCS, “Knowing their serological status allows people living with HIV to benefit from treatment and no longer transmit the virus”.
The NGO further emphasizes that“By directly impacting donor funding, the current economic crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic threatens the action of the association, which is nevertheless relevant “. For nearly 35 years, theALCS participates in the national response to HIV/AIDS, “by working with people living with HIV and populations most vulnerable to HIV infection”. Thanks to this, the association manages to “achieve almost 70% of the national objectives annually in terms of HIV prevention and to screen more than a third of infected people, while it only uses 10% of the HIV tests deployed. in Morocco “.
Through the 9th edition of Sidaction Maroc, theALCS wants to raise the funds necessary for the sustainability of its awareness-raising, screening and care actions for people living with the virus. “At the same time, HIV prevention awareness workshops will be organized in public and private schools,” underlines the association.
The national screening campaign, launched in November by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection with the participation of theALCSwill continue until December 31, 2022.
