For a performer with his own great successes and an enviable career, such as Yiannis Kotsiras, to declare that his new album, which has just been released, “Window to the Infinite”, is the “album of my life”, without a doubt, it’s not random.
“A karmic work”, as the beloved performer added, at yesterday’s presentation of this “handmade” album, released under his own production, by MINOS-EMI, with the signature of the talented creator of the new generation Manolis Androulidakis in music and of the late leading poet Alkis Alkaiou in verse.
It is a work that has the air of another era, when complete song cycles were made, where a composer and a lyricist signed all the songs on the record. The listening is modern, with folk elements, with sophisticated orchestration, by the hand of Alexandros Livitsanos, a constant collaborator of the singer, with the poetry of Alkis Alkaios sounding familiar to our ears and with his own unique stamp and with Yiannis Kotsiras taking them off with robust and at the same time tender interpretations. We found this out while listening to the songs yesterday in the auditorium at the presentation of the Vassilis and Eliza Goulandris Foundation in Pagrati, which was also accompanied by a nice film-visualization of them. Those of us who have been to Stavros tou Notou, where Yiannis Kotsiras appears this season, have also had a taste of this beautiful work, which seems to be winning over the public. The hits of the album, which for us is the second in the Zeybek series “A moon road”, which seems to be on everyone’s lips, have already stood out, as well as “Don’t be afraid of the shadows” and “The other side” and “The crazy people of this world”, etc.
Yannis Kotsiras, in a good mood, talked regarding his new job, while his family, his wife Katerina, with their two children Nikolas and Konstantinos, were in the front row of seats.
Margarita Matsa welcomed Yannis Kotsiras back to the MINOS EMI family, as she said, and referred to the process and the first audition date for the job, which left all the people of the company speechless.
Manolis Androulidakis noted jokingly that fortunately Thanos Mikroutsikos had left behind some anecdotal songs of Alkis Alkaios that he had not set to music. So this collaboration became possible. The poems reached the hands of the composer regarding a year and a half ago. “They came out effortlessly and of course I wrote them for Yiannis Kotsiras. He loved them immediately, more than I had imagined.”
For his part, Yiannis Kotsiras noted: “Having a composer write such songs for you is a great gift. I dropped everything I had planned to sing them and release them. Thanos Mikroutsikos was our connecting link with Alkis Alkaios. He knew how to create families. When he left, the family did not break up, Odysseas Ioannou is also here, but an important link of it is gone. This work is the album of my life. It is karmic. I don’t know if I will be able to release something similar once more.”
Dear friends such as Giorgos Dalaras with his wife Anna, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Nikos Terzis, Kostas Thomaidis, etc. attended the album presentation. The album has as its cover the painting “Window to Infinity” by the painter Emmanuela Daskalakis.
