“The alarm flare was launched, then no more than 5 minutes. Inexplicable” –

The search for the body of Hannah Lynch, daughter of British IT magnate Mike, has resumed. She is the latest of the missing to be missing. Yesterday morning, the body of the 18-year-old’s father was recovered from the wreck of the Bayesian, which sank on Monday at a depth of 50 metres, half a mile from Porticello. The operations are complex and, at this point, they are once again extending to the seabed around the yacht. The fact that the student has not yet been found confirms the dramatic sequence of terror experienced by the 22 on board the sailing vessel, 7 of whom had no escape. In fact, if the chain of human errors that led to the maritime disaster is emerging, details are also emerging about what happened in the handful of minutes in which the 56-metre vessel was overwhelmed by the storm, with the crew and passengers trying to save themselves, to escape, but for some of them that hull became a trap. “It’s all very inexplicable: incredible that such a large boat sank so easily,” said a fisherman who witnessed the scene, speaking to Il Messaggero.

In Porticello, he explains, “we don’t know bad weather at all. Capo Zafferano and Capo Gallo cover us. When bad weather hits us, from the North-North East there are waves of two meters at most.” And yet, at dawn on Monday a tornado overwhelmed and sank the luxury superyacht. Salvatore Argentino, this is the name of the fisherman from Porticello, contributed to the rescue operations of the survivors and now he tells what he was able to observe live. “That night there was a storm alert, but nothing extraordinary. At about ten to four I went to the port, I took a look at the two illuminated yachts, but everything was calm,” he says. Then the situation changed suddenly. “A rocket was launched from the Bayesian to give the alarm that lit up the sky, while the very strong wind also swept away chairs and tables outside the bars. I think it lasted five or six minutes or a little more,” he reports. At that point, the fisherman added, he left with the fishing boat but the surviving passengers were already saving themselves.
