The promotional poster for the Egyptian film “Al Shanab” caught attention following all its heroes appeared in black clothes. Egyptian artist Laila Elwi published on her personal Instagram page the official promotional poster for the film, which is expected to be shown at the sixth session of the El Gouna Film Festival, which will be held from October 13 to 20, as part of the feature film competition.

The film stars Laila Alawi, Lebleba, Sawsan Badr, Asmaa Jalal, Heidi Karam, Mahmoud Al-Bazawi, Khaled Sarhan, Ali Al-Tayeb, and Ibtihal Al-Sariti, and is written by Ahmed Raouf and Islam Hossam, with a screenplay and direction by Ayten Amin.

The events of the film take place within a family context, amid comic ironies following a sudden death in the family. Which forces its members to go to the city of Alexandria to participate in the funeral and condolences procedures, and to stay there during the days of mourning, in the midst of a large family gathering that includes four sisters, their children, and grandchildren.

Egyptian director Aiten Amin, who previously presented the film “Souad” and the series “Sabaa Jar,” said that its events are very realistic, adding to “Asharq Al-Awsat”: “For some time now, the idea of ​​the film has been in my mind, following I actually experienced it, and I spoke with Ahmed.” Raouf, who is participating in writing for the first time, following preparing the film’s background and events as a result of experiencing family events and funerals.”

Amin explained that “the author Islam Hosam’s participation with them in writing the film came regarding because he presented comedic content and smart clips that were used to keep pace with the events of the film,” and she continued: “This is what I was aspiring to, especially since Islam has a special kind of creativity, and works to provide comedic content.” Purposeful and light,” stressing that “the film’s events revolve around death and funeral procedures and their details, and family gatherings in such circumstances.”

About the film’s heroes appearing in black clothes on the work’s promotional poster. Ayten said: “The general framework of the film and its discussion of funeral details requires this,” noting that “the dose of comedy in it is employed according to the events.”

Regarding the film’s screening at the sixth session of the El Gouna Film Festival, she explained that it won the admiration of the festival management. Therefore, the producing company decided to show it first at the festival, and then release it in cinemas following its world premiere in El Gouna.

Regarding its classification as a “festival film” following it was shown in El Gouna, Aiten said: “Its content is a great factor that attracts people, and its classification as a commercial or festival film has many factors that are governed by the market, and in the end they do not concern me as long as its story is different and attractive.”

Aiten spoke regarding her dealings with the heroes of the work, saying: They are artists with long artistic experience, stressing that she had not dealt with stars with this experience before, except in the series “Seventh Neighbor,” especially since her artistic experiences are not many, according to what she said, indicating her “satisfaction.” In general, in dealing with stars who have remarkable experience and professionalism.”

“Al Shanab” is the first of Aiten Amin’s films to be shown to the public in the context of commercial cinema, especially since her film “Souad” participated in international festivals and was not shown in cinemas, according to what she said: “Because of some production issues,” stressing that she “will not stop filming.” Presenting the theme of festival films in addition to commercial films as well,” revealing the participation of Egyptian artist Sherine Deif of Honor in the film following their work together in the series “Sabea Jar.”

Regarding the actress, Laila Elwi, who stars in the film, she said: “She is a capable and professional artist, and the role suits her very well,” explaining that “all the heroines of the work have no alternative, and that she loves collective female heroism and raising issues that concern women in general.”
