Details of the Latam Airlines statement

It was learned that Venezuelans must have their passport of Venezuelan nationality valid at the time of travel.

If this document has expired, the person must request a Travel Document from a Consulate or Venezuelan Embassy accredited abroad and then must register it with the airline within 72 hours before boarding.

Latam also highlighted that boarding of Venezuelan passengers with their laminated ID is prohibited; it must always be with the passport or travel document requested at the consulate or embassy.

And in the case of Venezuelan passengers who have dual nationality, they must present a valid Venezuelan passport. If this document has expired, you will not be able to board even if you have your passport of your other nationality in order.

After publishing the document in their social networksLatam Airlines recommended passengers with tickets between September 27 to October 1, 2024 to review free ticket change options or visit the My Trip section of their website and click on “returns.”

Uncertainty for Venezuelans abroad

The suspension of flights with Chile is added to the “temporary” cessation of air operations with Panama, the Dominican Republic and Peru, in force since July 31 by order of the Venezuelan Executive, in rejection “of the interference of right-wing governments” with respect to the presidential elections of July 28, whose results have not yet been published in detail by the CNE.

Given this situation, Venezuelans residing in these countries face an uncertain scenario regarding the way in which they could travel to their country of origin and how to request identity and travel documents.

Recently, the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Immigration (Saime) clarified that Venezuelans residing in countries with closed consulates must collect their passport at the main headquarters of the state entity in the city of Caracas.

The information was confirmed by the institution on September 25 on its social networks. He denied that the organization is sending an email to citizens abroad about the alleged transfer of passports through a parcel company.

Safe conduct to travel to Venezuela

Venezuelans abroad can travel with an expired passport if they request the aforementioned Travel Document or safe conduct, a document that is only accepted in 12 countries.

Venezuela’s requirement for this document has been registered since 2019, because many Venezuelans abroad have expired documentation.

In addition, the document is valid for people who live outside of Venezuela, because it is prohibited for a Venezuelan to leave the country without a valid passport. However, you can also request to enter Venezuelan territory from another country.

Requirements to request safe passage

Most Venezuelan embassies and consulates issue the safe passage to travel to Venezuela to a renewal of documents, with this document the person will be able to guarantee their entry to Venezuela.

Requirements:

-Original and copy of the report for theft or theft of a document (if you do not have a passport)

-Original and copy of the plane ticket stamped by the airline

-Copy of any identification document of the applicant: ID or passport

-Photo of the applicant on CD or DVD in JPG format

-Proof of payment of the consular fee
