A developer under the pseudonym Gabe Follower presented a recording of Counter-Strike gameplay on the Source 2 engine. Throughout the existence of the game, Valve never transferred the popular shooter to the latest version of the engine, so fans ended up doing it.
Russian-speaking developer Maxim told on his YouTube channel that he is creating his own version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the Source 2 engine (and calls the game Counter-Strike: Source 2). To do this, he uses the s&box constructor from the creator of Garry’s Mod. The development of the demonstrated took six months.
Even if someday Valve transfers the original game to a new engine, the Gabe Follower version will still be relevant, since it is designed to use various modifications and new mechanics. The source code of the shooter will be published on GitHub later.
The video consists entirely of a demonstration of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Source 2. Nevertheless, there are few graphical differences with the original game, because this was not the developer’s goal. Still, you can see improved lighting and effects.
The release date for the finished version of Counter-Strike: Source 2 has not been announced.
