PRESIDENT Prabowo Subianto has sent a Letter from the President of the Republic of Indonesia number R60/PRES/11/2024 dated November 4 2024 regarding candidates for leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission and the Corruption Eradication Committee of the Corruption Eradication Committee for the 2024-2029 term of office to the DPR. Thus, the DPR has an obligation to immediately carry out a fit and proper test on the names of the leadership candidates and the KPK Supervisory Board.
Responding to the letter, member of the DPR RI, Said Abdullah, stated that the PDI Perjuangan appreciated President Prabowo’s decision to continue the KPK leadership and Dewas candidates whose recruitment process took place during President Joko Widodo’s era.
“We have carried out profiling and traced the track records of the names of candidates for KPK leadership and Dewas. Even though the KPK leadership and Dewas are selected as political appointees, the PDI-P faction in the DPR will use its authority to select candidates for the KPK Leadership and Dewas professionally. We will involve civil society activists who have been paying attention, and look at the track record of the KPK leadership and council. We will involve them,” he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/11).

He said the DPR would open its doors as wide as possible to the wider community, academics, anti-corruption activists to provide input and important data. This is so that the DPR, at least the PDI Perjuangan faction, can choose the best candidates for leadership and Dewas KPK.
“Even though we are aware that currently there is a decrease in public distrust towards the KPK, especially since the revision of the KPK Law, as well as the many ethical complaints from the public against the KPK leadership,” he said.
According to Said Abdullah, the task of the KPK leadership and Dewas in the future is very difficult. First, we must restore public trust in the Corruption Eradication Commission as a law enforcement agency that is clean, professional, has integrity and is impartial. Able to place the law as commander in chief. Second, the Corruption Eradication Commission must be able to strengthen the legal system.

Able to influence the President and DPR to strengthen legislative work to improve the national legal system, especially in eradicating corruption. Third, the Corruption Eradication Commission must be able to lead the work of eradicating corruption with coverage throughout the region.
At least focus on eradicating corruption in the natural resources sector which causes environmental damage and creates large-scale state losses. Fourth, the KPK leadership must be able to move the KPK as a pioneer of compliance, together with the government and society to build an anti-corruption culture.
In the end, believe that the DPR, in this case Commission 3, will choose the best through a mechanism determined in the spirit of deliberation. (Ykb/I-2)
