The Age of Minority Revenge

Today I want to talk to you regarding a risky subject. I will surely have tomatoes thrown at me and hear a shower of insults. You know, the ones that are sent to you in the face to silence the debate: homophobic, racist, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, and so on.

The more I look at this world, the more I am convinced that the 21e century will be that of the revenge of the minorities. It’s a good war. There has to be a rebalancing of forces, but where I pick up is when certain minorities act like the dominant ones that they denounce.

Let’s take a recent example: the Montreal Pride parade and the rejection of the SPVM. The reasons given? The police raids of the 1960s and 90s. Despite the apologies of the SPVM in 2017, nothing helped. This overwhelms me from an organization that strives for inclusion.

The police and the army on parade, nonsense!

If the parade had not been canceled, the army would have participated officially in uniform. The SQ would have already made this kind of request on the condition of parading without its uniform, and the SPVM almost fell to its knees. I’m falling out of my chair!

Since when do state organizations participate in political events? That members parade in their personal name without uniform, but from there to do it officially. Does the neutrality of state bodies apply only to religions?

A word regarding claims

This event is often the occasion for claims. Which is honourable. Here is one that always leaves me wondering: the decriminalization of the non-disclosure of an HIV infection.

In the Criminal Code, there is no specific provision for this type of behaviour. It was the Supreme Court in 1998 that forced HIV-positive people to disclose their disease before having sex at the risk of being charged with serious sexual assault; the maximum sentence being life. At that time, there was prosecution when the risk involved serious bodily harm, and it was not until 2012 that it was replaced by a “realistic possibility of HIV transmission”. In other words, if your viral load is low and you use a condom, you can shut up. In Quebec, there are no more prosecutions when the person is on treatment and their viral load is maintained at 200 copies/ml. Condom use doesn’t matter…

Another request which amounts to pushing an open door: to change the school curriculum in terms of sexuality education by emphasizing diversity. Just for the record, at my son’s school, they kept harping on their ears regarding sex differences. Besides, I lose my Latin: LGBTQ2 +. At this rate, by the end of this century, all the letters of the alphabet will pass through it. In the registration forms, there is no longer any mother or father. It’s parent 1 or 2. An apple turnover with that?
