Sad news from the world of theatre. On 17th August, the outstanding Polish actor Bogusław Danielewski passed away at the age of 96. The artist’s death was announced on Monday on the Film Polski website and in the social media of the Polish Theatre in Wrocław.
“It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of Mr. Bogusław Danielewski, a long-time actor of our Theatre,” we read on the institution’s website.
Bogusław Danielewski was born on April 16, 1928 in Gdynia. He began his professional career at the Wybrzeże Theatre in Gdańsk, but it was in 1952 that he was hired to work at the Polish Theatre in Wrocław, where he spent years. He was a lecturer at the Acting School at the Polish Theatre in Wrocław. He also taught at the Vocal and Acting Department of the Academy of Music in Wrocław. He played over a hundred roles in theatre, television and film, and directed several performances.
He became known to a wide audience thanks to his roles in such film productions as: “Świat według Kiepskich”, “Pierwsza miłość”, “Na trudno Bednarski” or “Jak być kochaną”. He also appeared in the films “Baryton”, “Konsul” and “Rdza”.
During his career he received many awards, including the Golden Spire in 1984 and the Silver Cross of Merit in 1976. In 2006 he received the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis for his services to culture.
It is worth mentioning that two weeks before the death of the outstanding actor, his beloved wife, Janina, died. Information about her passing was provided by Wrocław editor Magdalena Wieliczko.
“Two weeks ago, Mrs. Janina passed away – Mr. Bogusław’s beloved wife. They both spent many years together, but it seems that they could not live without each other… May they rest in peace,” Wieliczko wrote on Facebook.
