IMPLEMENTING Duties (Plt) Governor of West Sumatra (Sumbar) Audy Joinaldy emphasized that supervision of mineral and coal mines (minerba) lies with the central government.

“Supervision of mines that are minerals, metals such as coal or oil, is the supervision and authority of the central government,” said Audy Joinaldy, at the Arosuka Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Solok Regency, Saturday (28/0.

Meanwhile, the provincial government, he said again, only has the authority to supervise the C excavation mine. Therefore, supervision of mining activities outside the C excavation is not the authority of the provincial government, he also said.

Nevertheless, his party emphasized that they would not remain silent, considering that the gold mining landslide case in Ranah Minang was not the first time this had occurred, and had caused many casualties. “In the future, it will not be possible to let this continue, because it happens repeatedly and the victims are the public,” said Audy.

On the one hand, he understands that raising awareness among the public regarding mining activities outside the C excavation, including those suspected of being illegal, takes time.

Because, however, gold mining such as in Nagari Sungai Abu, Hiliran Gumanti District, Solok Regency, which caused the death of 12 people was motivated by economic factors.

“Slowly we have to provide understanding to the community. The victims of the gold mine landslide admitted that they were working because of economic factors,” he said again.

When asked further whether the gold mine in Nagari Sungai Abu, Hiliran Gumanti District, Solok Regency was illegal or licensed, Audy could not confirm because he had to check the data first.

“We’ll check together later. As far as I know, several official gold mining IUPs exist in West Sumatra,” he also said. (Ant/N-2)
