The man’s defender, lawyer Roy Peder Kulblik, informs Dagbladet that he is finished in a short interrogation.

– As far as I understood the accused so far, he denies having committed the acts, he writes in an SMS to the newspaper.

He further states that the man, in his early 20s, appears to be in poor mental health, and that an assessment is therefore needed as to whether he is sane.

In family

At a press conference on Tuesday, it emerged that the woman and the child of primary school age lived in the apartment where the woman was found dead on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. It is a residential complex with several housing units.

The man did not live there, but had a family relationship with the two. The woman and the man are both Norwegian citizens, the police said VG.

– The police take the case very seriously and are investigating widely. A number of witnesses are being questioned both at Vestnes and elsewhere in Møre and Romsdal counties, police inspector Anders Skorpen Trøen said at the press conference.

He said it is too early to say anything about a motive in the case.

Severely damaged

The man is currently charged with grievous bodily harm resulting in death against the woman, and grievous bodily harm against the child, who is seriously injured and admitted to St. Olav’s hospital.

The accused will be produced for remand, but it is not clear when that will happen. For the time being, he is being looked after by the healthcare system.

It was health personnel and the fire brigade who arrived first at the scene after being notified of the case by someone who was in the apartment.

– The caller is not connected to the address, but was there at the time and experienced a situation requiring immediate health care, operations manager Tor André Gram Franck told Romsdal’s Budstikke Tuesday morning.

Sparing with information

Based on information at the scene, the man in his 20s was arrested by the police. Defender Kulblik previously stated that Dagbladet that the man has been presented as a doctor.

The police are very sparse with information for the sake of the investigation.

Trøen does not want to go into what kind of injuries the dead woman or the injured child had. Nor will he answer whether weapons or other objects have been found at the scene.

Relatives are taken care of

The police work closely with Vestnes municipality to take care of the child and other relatives in the case.

The municipality’s psychosocial crisis team has been connected, confirms mayor Randi Bergundhaugen to VG.

– I understand so much that people find this difficult. It is not everyday that this happens in a municipality with 7,000 inhabitants, but I think that we are served by handling the matter professionally, said the mayor.
