The absolute world boxing champion in the second middleweight Mexican Saul Alvarez declared on Twitter that his threats to the leader of the Argentina national football team Lionel Messi were inappropriate.
Alvarez had previously accused Messi of disrespecting Mexico and urged him to “pray” not to meet him in person. So the boxer reacted to the video of the Argentines celebrating the victory over the Mexicans at the World Championships in Qatar, in which Messi stepped on the T-shirt of the Mexican national team lying on the floor in the locker room.
“In recent days, I have been overcome with passion and love for my country and made inappropriate comments for which I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina. Every day teaches us something new, this time it’s my turn,” wrote Alvarez.
messi followingwards named the situation as a misunderstanding and stated that he had nothing to apologize for, because he did not intentionally offend anyone.
Alvarez has 58 wins and two losses in the professional ring.
