The Brussels Minister of Local Authorities and, as such, impeded mayor of Schaerbeek, Bernard Clerfayt, criticized the federal power on Tuesday for showing an “absence of intelligence or management” concerning foreign nationals present in Belgium, as the alleged perpetrator of the attack committed Monday evening.

In the present case, the Foreigners’ Office registered this person at an address in Schaerbeek without informing the municipality. Same when he was removed from this address.” There was no request for control,” explained the regional minister of local authorities, interviewed by the Belga agency.
Information concerning the potential danger of the person exists, but is not transmitted to the municipality either, he added. “We learn that this gentleman has a daughter at school. How come the Immigration Office did not register her at the same time as her father,” he asked.
Still according to Bernard Clerfayt, the information broadcast in the last hours also reveals that “he came to cause trouble in a mosque. If a dangerous person does this, the State Security responsible for the matter must know regarding it, unless they lack the means to make this happen.”
The minister finally asked that the competent services be questioned on the way in which information relating to the presence of migrants in the municipalities is processed, without notifying them.
