The absence of a sector of the opposition in the electoral simulation was irresponsible

The lawyer and political analyst, Johel Orta Moros described the non-participation of a sector of the opposition in the electoral simulation, organized by the National Electoral Council (CNE), as irresponsible, since, in his opinion, from a political point of view, it is important not to leave empty spaces and to actively participate in the electoral processes.

“It is one of the many irresponsible acts that a sector of the opposition has committed, such as the call for abstention, the non-participation in the calls of the electoral body, the permanent disqualification of this electoral body, which is the arbiter responsible for proclaiming the president,” said Orta.

Orta stressed that the main objectives of the day’s simulation were to familiarize the electorate with the electoral process and to fine-tune the electoral machinery.

However, “the Venezuelan opposition once again demonstrated the fracture into two pieces, one represented by the Unitary Platform, represented by Edmundo González Urrutia, and the other, more centrist and less radicalized, with the participation of the candidates being mostly evident, but the massive mobilization was only observed in the official sector.”

Orta mentioned that the ruling party is taking advantage of the day to identify its strengths and weaknesses, which will allow it to adjust its electoral strategy. He also highlighted the particularity of the current electoral campaign.

He also insisted that there are two wrong assumptions among political contenders: underestimating the vote of the opponent and overestimating the vote they have.

Finally, the political analyst stressed the importance of building a great inclusive national dialogue and working on the rectification of public policies, establishing an alternative agenda to the Plan de la Patria and seeking consensus among the different candidates of the Venezuelan opposition. “The opposition cannot arrive on July 28 with a wide range of candidates; they must come to an agreement and arrive at a unified contest.”
