This is yet another story that is not going to help restore Nvidia’s image at the moment. A short time ago, without too much fanfare, Nvidia decided to release an RTX 3060 8 GB…A priori the little sister of the 3060 12GB which has been on the market for a while now. Without the need for extensive analysis, it is easy to understand that this card came out of the drawers of the greens to counter the arrival of Intel in this sector but also from AMD to a lesser extent. Only then, in this exercise, it is once again the end customer who finds himself “confused”. Card even if this new version (less expensive normally) retains the same graphics chip with 3,584 CUDA cores than its big sister, the other modifications have a significant impact on the card’s performance. The memory reduction of 4 GB, but also its reduced memory interface from 192 to 128 bits make the performance of this card rank it more on the side of an RTX 3050 than a 3060. Suffice to say that when this card is integrated into machines sold by brands in the distribution circuits mainstream the targeted customer will not really be aware that he is globally “cheated”.
RTX 3060 8GB: one more “confuse” for the end customer
The other concern is that this RTX 3060 8 GB came out on tiptoe. Surprisingly, no media picked up on this story because Nvidia did not make an “official” launch.

A 1440p , in the same battery of tests the 3060 8 GB averaged 67 FPS, while the 12 GB version reached 79 FPS. The RTX 3050 gets a performance of 56 FPS. In essence, we are talking abouta performance difference of around 17% between the GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB and the 8 GB.
In some games, the spreads can go up up to 26% performance against the 8GB version.
Once again, if the customer who buys his components is generally attentive and “educated”, it is to all those who buy manufacturer machines within the large distribution in particular. A way to have a more profitable card for manufacturers and the brand image of the “3060”…
