Today is Monday. It is therefore time for the editorial staff of JV to offer you a small overview of the independent games to come this week. Between the DLC of the indie juggernaut Cuphead and the arrival on Nintendo Switch of the latest game from the creator of The Binding of Isaac, there are big names, but also small, more modest experiences.

Fobia – St. Dinfna Hotel

Do you know the history of St. Dinfna Hotel? This respectable establishment enjoyed a fairly decent reputation…at least until it became the macabre scene of a series of disappearances and strange paranormal phenomena. Since then, it has been abandoned and the inhabitants of Treze Trilha avoid it like the plague. Now that you know what’s going on there, your curiosity as a journalist leaves you with no choice: you have to go to this old hotel and find out what is behind all this history. Of course, this whole affair is much more complex and sordid than it seems. In addition to the presence of a somewhat peculiar camera and a not really friendly fanatic sect, pay attention to your poor little heart (and body). Horror and death are never far away Fobia – St. Dinfna Hotel. A demo is already available, if you dare.

The Legend of Bum-bo

We no longer present Edmund McMillen, the creator of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac in particular. A true master of the independent, he presented us in November 2019 with an RPG puzzle just as deranged as its predecessors: The Legend of Bum-bo. This week, the title ventures on consoles of all stripes. As a reminder, you play as Bum-bo, a rather special little being who faces his enemies in an even more special way: by aligning four identical elements. Each defeated enemy allows you to obtain coins, allowing you to improve your spells in a casino and then return to battle and so on. EBetween Match-4 and roguelite (plus some elements of deckbuilding), The Legend of Bum-bo offers a rather atypical experience that had disconcerted some and ecstatic others. Console players will soon be able to choose their side.

Hook 2

Who said you have to have plenty to produce a good game? There are a whole bunch of games that aim to put minimalism at the heart of their experience. This is particularly the case for the titles of Maciej Targoni who made puzzle game minimalist its trademark. In January 2015, he presented Hook to us, a very small game intended to be as sober as it is relaxing. Over its 60 levels, the title had been able to seduce, as shown by the more than 7000 opinions delivered on Steam and generally extremely positive. Seven years later, the developer therefore returns to the charge with Hook 2. As with the first opus, the goal is to rack your brains a bit to remove all the hooks present on the screen. If the principle remains the same, Hook 2 offers itself a little more depth by dropping pure 2D. Note that a demo is already available on Steam if the concept intrigues you.

Alaloth : Champions of The Four Kingdoms

Gamera Interactive’s RPG is rather known to gamers. It must be said that over the years he has managed to find a place for himself within the E3 (and non-E3) conferences. Recently, it was during the Guerilla Collective Showcase that we saw him once more. In addition to new images, Alaloth – Champions of the Four Kingdom offered itself, on this occasion, a launch date for its early access. Players will be able to discover this RPG inspired by big names such as Baldur’s Gate and Pillars of Eternity from this week. Whether you are more of an orc, a man, an elf or a dwarf at heart, you will be able to let your courage and your strength speak in order to defeat the demonic forces unleashed by the god Alaloth. On the program: demanding fights, a darkly medieval world, a frantic pace and alliance choices that might well determine the rest of your destiny.

Cuphead : The Delicious Last Course

Cuphead : The Delicious Last Course finally arrives on your screens. And that’s good because the players who enjoyed the dynamic and retro atmosphere of Cuphead were starting to get impatient. Admittedly, the Cuphead Show made it easier for some to swallow the pill of the many postponements, but the latter certainly did not come close to the title which quickly became a classic in the indie catalog. Good news, the DLC release date has finally arrived and no postponement on the horizon. You will soon be able to discover the brand new Watercolor Island alongside Mugman, Cuphead, but also Mrs. Chalice. It is to help the latter that you embark on a new adventure with a series of bosses to knock out. In addition to the mechanics of Mrs. Chalice, no big news on the horizon, but always the same mastery on the side of the MDHR studio which offers us an island richer and worked than ever.

Almost my floor

A little less than a year following its PC release, Potata Company’s horrific point’n’click lands on all consoles. You will be able to discover the adventures of Alex and/or the detective Adam Trust through an adventure mixing investigation and horror. It is in the strange House #9 that everything happens and there is a good chance that you will not come out unscathed. If detective Adam Trust is there to investigate, Alex is in a most dramatic situation. He is, for some reason that seems unknown, stuck in this famous house. Seeking to get out of it, he will have to face the monsters that inhabit it, but also determine the fate of the poor souls who live there. Note that a demo (by the name of Almost My Floor: Prologue) is available on Steam if the game intrigues you. Almost My Floor has also received very positive reviews on the Valve platform.
