The 50 Jahre edition of the BMW M3 marks 50 years of M

Five decades will soon have passed since the birth of the division M from BMW. To mark the anniversary of the M crest, the manufacturer will offer 500 copies of the BMW M3 under the “50 Jahre” version in 2023. These units will be offered in 5 different colors, in addition to displaying several stylistic details aimed at differentiating them from the conventional M3.

Years?

The term “Jahre”, when translated from German, simply means “years”: this is not the first time that the brand has offered a product whose name incorporates this term. In 2017, BMW offered a 30 Jahre edition of its M3, as the manufacturer celebrated the 30th anniversary of the model.

Today, however, marks 50 years of the M Division with the M3 50 years 2023 and the model will be offered in 5 different colors each representing a generation of the M3.

Like previous generations

The 2023 BMW M3 50 Jahre will only be offered in five colors, which will represent each of the generations of the model. First of all, the 1986 BMW M3 (E30), which was the first 3 Series to wear the M emblem, shone with full force with its optional “Cinnabar Red” paint scheme.

Then, the “Violet Techno” that clad the exterior of the 1992 BMW M3 (E36) will also be available for the 50 Jahre, while “Blue Interlagos” will also be offered for the said model, this one being borrowed from the BMW M3 from year 2000 (E46).

Finally, two other colors will be offered for the 50 Jahre edition, namely “Orange Feu” as found on the BMW M3 2007 (E92) then “Gris Limerock” which was found on the CS edition of the BMW M3 of 2017 (F80). BMW has yet to reveal the appearance of all the different BMW M3 Edition 50 Jahre models, however, while the veil has been lifted on only the colors ‘Interlagos Blue’ and ‘Violet Techno’.

Other Unique Details

There is a commemorative plaque in the passenger compartment that reads “M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M”, in addition to indicating that the vehicle is intended as a limited edition of 500 units.

Otherwise, there are M-style strips affixed to the headrests of the 4 seats in the cabin, then a travel case in the image of this 50 Jahre edition is offered to buyers of this model.

It should however be noted that the specificities of this limited edition 50 Jahre stop here, since from a mechanical point of view, it is a BMW M3 Competition xDrive as we already know it. A six-cylinder in-line engine that develops 503 horsepower is found under the hood, and an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system are the only configuration offered.

We still don’t know how many of the 500 units produced for North America will be available in Canada, or how much they will cost, but we do know the price they will command from our neighbors to the south: $96,695, which is $8,550 above the asking price for a BMW M3 Competition xDrive in the US market.
