Apple has many new surprises planned for the coming year. While not revolutionary, some highly anticipated gadgets are on the horizon.
2021 has just ended, and it’s already time to look ahead to 2022. Apple aficionados eagerly anticipate the novelties the company will unveil. Alongside the yearly releases of the iPhone and Apple Watch, several exciting additions should energize the new year.
A Vibrant MacBook Air
Early in 2021, Apple introduced stunning new iMacs powered by the Apple Silicon M1 SoC. These potent machines, a drastic departure from their predecessors, swiftly captivated consumers. The iMac’s array of colors, reminiscent of the iMac G3 era, undoubtedly fueled its popularity.
In the summer or autumn of 2022, Apple is expected to refresh its MacBook Air lineup. Unaltered since 2018, save for a minor M1 update, Apple’s slim laptop may receive a significant makeover. Reports suggest a vibrant color palette akin to the iMac, along with the new M2 chip. The MacBook Air’s slight thickness increase should finally give way to a sleek, flat design.
An iPad Air with M1 Chip
Currently, only one iPad boasts the Apple Silicon M1 chip: the iPad Pro. The iPad Air, the second flagship tablet, still uses the A14 chip found in iPhones. Launched in 2020, this model is becoming outdated, making an M1 or M2 upgrade logical. For now, the standard iPad and iPad mini remain cheaper and equally capable alternatives.
An M1 SoC upgrade seems inevitable for this premium model. Its launch is anticipated towards the year’s end, around October or November.
A New iPhone SE
Since 2016, Apple’s iPhone lineup has included a more affordable and less powerful model, making iPhones accessible to a broader market. The iPhone SE appeals to consumers desiring an iPhone but hesitant to pay top dollar for the iPhone Pro or Pro Max.
In 2020, a second iPhone SE emerged, offering attractive specifications but less processing power than the concurrently released iPhone XR. This year, alongside the potential iPhone 14, the Cupertino-based company is projected to unveil a third-generation iPhone SE. This 5G-capable device is expected to feature an A15 chip and launch in the spring.
AirPods Pro 2
Introduced in 2019, the AirPods Pro are starting to show their age. While remaining competitive in many aspects, Apple’s high-end earbuds deserve a refresh. Details are scarce, but improvements are expected in battery life, noise cancellation, and a more streamlined design. A debut in the first half of the year is possible.
An Apple Watch Designed for Athletes
Annually, alongside new Apple Watch releases, Apple provides a “Nike” edition, featuring a unique sports band and watch face. However, the underlying hardware remains identical to other models, lacking dedicated sports features.
