The 49 protesters who were referred to trial at the Three-member Criminal Appeal Court of Thessaloniki for involvement in incidents that took place during an anti-fascist march, in September 2020, on the new beach of Thessaloniki, were found not guilty.
The case reached the audience of the Criminal Court of Thessaloniki, as among the charges brought once morest the demonstrators was that of criminal damage to monuments of particular value, linked to slogans inscribed in the surrounding area of the White Tower.
A representative of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Thessaloniki, testifying as a witness, stated that the spot where the slogans were written does not belong to the White Tower monument and, by extension, the specific deed is not documented.
The district attorney asked for the defendants to be acquitted of all the acts (they were additionally prosecuted for disturbing the peace, aggravated assault to the degree of a misdemeanor and disobedience, due to the refusal to submit to a dactyloscopic examination).
All of them in their apologies denied all the accusations, while the majority of them testified that during the disputed period there were students.
For the same case, a minor was also accused, who was referred to be tried in a Juvenile court, while another person died and the prosecution once morest him was stopped.
