Once again, Santiago de Anaya was the scene of the Gastronomic Exhibition, which this year was the 43rd edition, which according to the authorities brought together around 1,300 chefs, who presented their dishes in the 2024 gastronomic contest.

Prior to a tour of the entire fair, the governor of the entity, Julio Menchaca Salazar, recognized the work and labor of all those people who presented their dishes, highlighting that they contain a great cultural and ancestral heritage and that beyond of a meal, have become guardians of the cultural heritage of this region.

He highlighted that this type of events generate identity and preservation of deep-rooted traditions and processes, some of which date back to pre-Hispanic times, in addition to the fact that the fair has managed to expand the tourist offer of Hidalgo and attract visitors from different parts of the country. as well as from other parts of the world.

While the governor was giving his speech, there was a group of dissatisfied people who demonstrated against the recent assignment of candidates to various positions for the 2023-2024 electoral process, for which they placed a banner that stated: “In Santiago de Anaya, no to impositions.” “, and added two topics: “grasshoppers only for eating”, “without dark-skinned people we will not vote.”

And while that happened on the stage of the gastronomic exhibition, around dozens of stalls offered the typical dishes of the region, among which were palm flowers, gualumbos, aloe vera flower, garambullos, cow tongue, quelites, nopales, among others. .

The animals of the region could not be missing either, among which there was a great variety of insects, reptiles, birds and mammals, which were accompanied with cured pulque and natural pulque, honey water or fresh waters of local fruits such as garambullo or xoconostle.
