The 417 vehicles expected in Libreville on August 25 –

On a platform with our colleagues from the continuous news channel, Gabon 24, the Minister of Transport, Merchant Navy and the Sea, Dieudonné Loïc Moudouma Ndinga, announced the arrival at the port of Owéndo, on August 25, of the 417 taxis of the 1 man = 1 taxi project, initiated by the president of the transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma.

According to the Minister in charge of transport, some specimens of this first batch of taxis will be taken to be injected into the public transport network of certain main cities in the interior of the country where transport difficulties are already a certain acuteness, notably in Port-Gentil.

Captain Dieudonné Loïc Moudouma Ndinga also revealed that the contingent of 417 expected taxis is only the first in a series that will be renewed, as part of this project intended to renew the aging taxi fleet in Libreville, which has a deficit of around five thousand (5000) units, he revealed, and to re-appropriate the sector held overwhelmingly by expatriate subjects.

The government member then returned to the conditions to be met to benefit from a taxi within the framework of the said project, via the National Center for Full Employment (PNPE). You must be of Gabonese nationality, aged 21 to 60, have a category B, C or D driving license and provide a deposit of 1 million one hundred (1,100,000) thousand CFA francs.

This deposit, for which applicants can be supported by microfinance structures associated with the project, should be used to cover the costs relating to the acquisition of documents inherent to the circulation of taxis (insurance, registration certificate, fire extinguishers, etc.) and certain revisions and repairs of vehicles during the operating phase; through the company ”Taxi Gab” created expressly to manage this project.

The taxi will automatically return to its purchaser, thirty (30) months after operation, or two (2) and a half years, respecting the regime of a minimum payment of 20,000 CFA francs per day. These cumulative payments should be used to regularly renew the fleet and allow other young Gabonese to escape unemployment, concluded the minister in charge of transport.
