DENMARK:The police of South Zealand and Lolland-Falster state at a press conference on Wednesday that they have expanded the charges once morest the 32-year-old man, who is also charged with the deprivation of liberty and rape of a 13-year-old girl, to now also be charged with the abduction and murder at Emilie Meng.

Emilie Meng disappeared without a trace on 10 July 2016. Several months later – on 24 December of the same year – the body of the girl was found in a lake near Borup in Midtsjælland.

The 32-year-old’s lawyer, Karina Skou, informs Ritzau that the man denies guilt in the murder of Emilie Meng.

The 32-year-old man was arrested the day following a 13-year-old girl disappeared when she was handing out newspapers. She was found the next day in the 32-year-old’s home.

The 32-year-old is also charged with assaulting a woman in Sorø. It happened in November 2022 in West Zealand. The woman was threatened with a knife, but resisted and escaped.

The police began the press conference by apologizing for the process that initially took place in connection with Emilie Meng’s disappearance.

Police inspector Kim Kliver was asked at the press conference whether the police have been skilled enough in the investigation of the murder of Emilie Meng.

– We are evaluating that part. I also have a lot of focus on the fact that there are relatives and a family who have experienced great frustration, he replied.

At the meeting, the police emphasized that the 32-year-old has been charged and has not yet been sentenced in the case.

It has emerged that the police have found the car that the 32-year-old had access to at the time Emilie Meng disappeared. The car – which is of the same type as the one believed to have been used in connection with Emilie Meng’s disappearance – has been found in Slovakia.
