The 27th edition of the Fez Festival of Sacred Music of the World will be held from September 15 to 23 under the theme “The quest for the Al-Andalus spirit”.

This new edition will highlight Spain as guest of honor to celebrate the historical and present ties that unite Spain and Morocco, as specified by the “Spirit of Fez” Foundation on its website.

Several artists and troupes from both countries will be there and will offer a rich musical program. The kick-off of this edition will be given at Place Bab Makina through an artistic creation entitled “Zyriab or the fifth string”, a journey to the sources of inspiration of Andalusian music, between heaven and earth, mountains and palaces.

This meeting also provides for the participation of artists representing in particular Uzbekistan, India, the United States, Italy, Bulgaria, Israel, Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt and Ireland.

These include, among others, the British star Sami Yusuf, the singer of Syrian origin Naïssam Jalal, Nedyalko Nedyalkov Quartet (Bulgaria), Khadija El Afrit (Tunisia), Walid Benselim, Young Musicians european orchestra, and Madalena (choir feminine), in addition to Sufi nights.

The Fez Forum, meanwhile, focuses on two major axes, namely universalism in the spirit of Al-Andalus, and humanism in the spirit of Al-Andalus.

For the president of the “Spirit of Fez” Foundation, Abderrafie Zouitene, the peaceful coexistence of Islam, Judaism and Christianity created a dynamic and diversified society in Andalusia during a period known as “The Golden Age ” which was the envy of the world.
