Pham Tuan Huy (born in 1996) is the second Vietnamese, following Professor Ngo Bao Chau, to receive an award from the Clay Mathematics Institute, USA – which awards the most prestigious mathematics prizes in the US.
Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI), USA has just announced the awarding of Clay Research Fellowships to Paul Minter and Pham Tuan Huy. This award is open to young mathematicians who are new to or regarding to graduate with a PhD, providing scholarships for them to do postdoctoral research.
Pham Tuan Huy became the first Vietnamese to receive this award, was appointed a researcher at the Clay Mathematics Institute for 5 years, from 1 July 2023.
Pham Tuan Huy was born in 1996, is a former student majoring in Mathematics in the 2011-2014 school year of the Gifted High School (National University of Ho Chi Minh City). Huy was called the “golden” guy in Mathematics when he twice won the Gold Medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in 2013, 2014.
From undergraduate, master’s to doctoral degrees, Huy studied at Stanford University. To date, Huy has published 28 papers in Mathematical journals. Huy’s research direction is combinatorics, probability theory and related disciplines.
Previously, Prof. Ngo Bao Chau received another award from the Clay Institute – Clay Research Award (award for outstanding and potential research) in 2004 for his work on Fundamental Lemma, which is also the for which he was awarded the Fields Prize in 2010. This is the most prestigious mathematics award in the United States today.
